Hogan & Hartson opened in Miami in 2000 and in West Palm Beach in 2004. Our Florida presence has rapidly expanded with the addition of many of the area's top lawyers, both in domestic and international practice areas. The legal community recognizes the firm as a leading provider of sophisticated services in a broad range of disciplines. Our lawyers routinely work across multiple practices and disciplines to offer clients a wealth of knowledge and resources, collaborating with the other Hogan & Hartson domestic and international offices to meet the challenges required in today's global economy.

In 2004 the firm handled the introduction of the Scripps Research Institute into Florida. Supported by over $500 million of public funds, Scripps is expected to be the seed of major biomedical development companies. The firm represents the state of Florida in various complex matters, including the first major water rights dispute in the eastern United States and the defense of a multibillion dollar inverse condemnation claim based on Florida's denial of an application to drill for oil in the Gulf of Mexico. Our Florida offices provide extensive services in the project and municipal finance fields, energy, health care, real estate, construction, as well as extensive constitutional, commercial, and employment law litigation work, providing representation before federal and state courts and administrative and arbitral tribunals.

Internationally, the office is a strategic platform for complex transactional and arbitral matters throughout Latin America, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Our lawyers are highly capable of handling all aspects of major transactions in Spanish, Portuguese, French, Italian, and English. We handle work ranging from high-stakes international arbitrations and litigation to major multi-country business transactions. The representation includes a number of the world's largest petrochemical, energy, oil and gas, construction, development, telecommunications, technology, financial, and manufacturing entities.

We have a seasoned team of lawyers, including the first general counsel to Florida's former governor; a former U. S. Department of Justice attorney who had also been deputy Florida attorney general; and the former general counsel of one of the area's largest health care providers. In addition, many of our attorneys are highly ranked in Chambers USA (2004-2006). Attorneys in the firm's Miami office are also heavily involved in community projects, including leadership of the recently opened Performing Arts Center and the Florida Ethics Commission.
